memory is a web, a web, and its constantly lacing up to new bits of web and
dropping others ...

gene memory, yes, I agree - didn't someone in recent years (New Scientist?)
propose that there are some memories that are passed on from generation to
generation, what kinds of memories I don't know - perhaps behaviors,
language abilities, musical 'gifts' ... maybe these gene memories are only
expressed 2 generations apart like some 'physical' abilities, maybe arising
from the will of the parents or grandparents, the will creating a potential
that is expressed in the children?

Memory - system of associations, more than text or language content, vision,
sound, smell, location of body position of limbs and more than this a kind
of humming, vibrating constantly changing holistic ocean of associations ...

W Grey Walter described the brain as an enchanted loom - which pretty much
describes the WWW, the net is a very sense deprived entity though, perhaps
when a large number of sensory inputs are linked in, audio, visual,
olfactory - you might get a simple mind construct evolving, a kind of
electronic protoplasm, poke it and it quivers.

My mother is 96 (I'm 60) and she remembers her life very well, remembers her
children, husband, the sounds of our voices etc but her short term memory
has buggered off a bit, sort of distressing for us but 'she' is still there,
love is strong ...

no newness in the world ... change is constant, all things in a general
sense recycle, regenerate themselves, like Joni says - we are stardust. On a
personal level what we make is uniquely ours, a unique mix. When I think of
Louise Borgiouse and the way she has explained her life it is totally unique
to me, to her even though it may be reminiscent of aspects of work by other
artists, and maybe all this work ends up in spiderwebs and dust but what
really matters is what we're eating right now, what's real right now

Barrie

PS Sometimes with this list is like Joyce's Finnegans Wake - wonderful
wallowing in words, a kind of soup of ideas, can of worms, cats amongst the
pigeons, like totally, like so bitchin ...
